Loss of library card

If you have lost your library card, it must be blocked in order to prevent any abuse. You can announce the loss of a library card in person at the library, by telephone or by email at the address knihovna@mlp.cz. For the identification and searching of an individual member’s record it is necessary to give the first name, surname, date of birth and address. A telephone or email notification must be confirmed by a personal visit to the library.

Is the library card valid for all branches?

Yes, with a library card from the Central Library you can visit all of the branches of the Municipal Library of Prague. Their addresses and opening hours are given HERE .

Online account

Access to online databases

You need a valid library card with password for remote access to the online databases. By clicking on the database link you open the login form. Fill in the number of the library card (“user name”) and password. If the data is entered correctly, after confirmation of the form you are logged into the relevant database.

Nickname

You can enter or change the nickname on the library card after logging into the account on our web pages on the tab possibilities. This means that you must have a configured password on the library card before this. After you configure the nickname, you can use it for access to your library account via the internet page instead of the number of the library card. And thanks to it you can make comments on titles of the library. You can insert commentaries from the cataloguing card of the individual titles (in the online web catalogue). If the nickname that you intend to use already exists, the program will warn you of this and allow you to make a new proposal.

Halting of reservation

If you have a reservation for a book and for some reason you don’t want to take it out, you can halt the reservation. Log in to the electronic catalogue in the library or to the online catalogue on the Internet (if you have a password specified on the library card). Under the Reservation tab you will find a list of all reservations, by clicking the button Adjust the form for the relevant reservation opens. By ticking the window “Stop”, you halt the implementation of reservation. Although “stopped” reservations continue to move up to the first place in the order, they are then jumped by the reservations of other members. Only after cancellation of the Stop option is your reservation implemented.

Performed reservation (notification)

Do I have to have the notification of a performed reservation sent by post and pay extra for it?

No, it is possible to configure the sending of a notification only by email or even to leave the reservation without notification where the member checks its performance himself on his account’s statement in the library or on the internet. NOTA BENE: A reservation without written notification will wait only one week for a member from its performance. An additional fee is charged for a written notification where the reservation waits two weeks from the printing of a written notification.

Can I cancel a performed reservation?

You can cancel a performed reservation directly in the library, in the member’s electronic catalogue or at the librarian or via our web page. In order to protect members’ accounts, we do not cancel reservations by email or telephone requests. NOTA BENE: Not picking up a performed reservation does not free you of the duty to pay the reservation fee because the work associated therewith has already been performed.

Is a reservation paid for?

The flat fee for the reservation of a library unit is CZK 10, and a fee of CZK 15 is also charged for a written notification concerning the performance of reservation sent by post in the Czech Republic, postage outside the Czech Republic additionally postal charges + CZK 5 overhead charges.
