The e-library of the Municipal Library of Prague currently offers over 140 books in English. The list would not be complete without all-time classics such as Pride and Prejudice Jane Austen, but we also have English translations of Czech or German Czech authors, such as Metamorphosis by Franz Kafka. And of course, we keep adding new titles by contemporary authors.
Feel the vibe of the city and the Vltava river in the poems by contemporary
Czech authors in A Giant
Barrel of Rotgut. To chill down a bit on a hot summer night, read Zombicorns by John
Green, a horror novella about the influence of genetically modified corn on
humans. We also offer bilingual texts for both adults and kids; for the latter,
check What Bad
Luck by Czech author Jiří Weinberger. Even you might find his story of a
boy looking for his dog in the famous Stromovka park amusing. Other relaxing
reads for long hours spent on the beach include titles such as Move under
Ground, a crazy horror story set in the 1960s with beatniks in supporting
roles, or fantasy books Dreams from
Beyond and Makers by Cory
Doctorow.
The books from our e-library are offered as free downloads in three formats
for desktops, readers, tablets and smartphones.
