The library is here for you during the summer months as well. We start lending books for the summer on 8 June 2026, and we offer e-books for those who like to travel light. Staying in Prague? We are preparing a varied programme of cultural events.
Main information about summer opening hours
Summer opening hours apply from 1 July to 31 August 2026. During the holidays, branches are closed on Saturdays and have shorter opening hours. Planning to visit the library during the holidays? Check the opening hours at www.mlp.cz/pobocky.
From 1 July to 23 August 2026, bookmobiles will not be in service. You can find Oskar on the river embankment and at festivals.
The ticket offices in the foyer of the Central Library will be completely closed from 1 July to 1 September 2026. Tickets for autumn events can be purchased online during this period at www.mlp.cz/akce.
Summer closure: the library will be closed from Monday, 27 July to Sunday, 9 August 2026. All branches will be closed. Self-service kiosks will remain open throughout the summer, and the Velký Mlýn branch will also operate during the closure.
Velký Mlýn: summer opening hours
The Velký Mlýn branch will be closed at the beginning of the summer from Monday, 29 June to Sunday, 12 July 2026. During the summer closure, however, Velký Mlýn will be open from 27 July to 9 August 2026.
Books for the whole summer holiday
We start lending books for the summer holidays on 8 June 2026. Take advantage of the exceptionally extended loan period and borrow plenty of reading for the holidays. Books borrowed during this period can be returned as late as September.
Where to return books during the closure?
You can return books even when we are closed.
During the summer closure, you can use the return boxes at the Jezerka, Lužiny, Opatov and Petřiny branches, or return books at the Central Library. Tip! The CČM kiosk at Černý Most Centre, the DBK kiosk at Budějovická and the Velký Mlýn branch will operate in self-service mode throughout the closure.
