New terms from the Library Rules of the Municipal Library of Prague.
The so-called Idiom, a column made of 8,000 books, has been present in the vestibule of the Central Library at Mariánské Square since 1998. The author of the Idiom, sometimes dubbed the “Column of Knowledge“, is the Slovak artist Matej Krén.
Libraries have kept human knowledge for a long time, but modern libraries add something extra. The contemporary world, full of a large amount of information, can appear as a confusing labyrinth. Our library wants to be a safe guide to such a labyrinth in 2020.
The Library Rules constitute the basic document defining the relationship between the library and its users. It is amended if external or internal facts affecting the library’s activities have changed. Hence, an amendment may result from a change in legislation. The current changes are related primarily to the RFID technology which the library has decided to employ in its services.
